Olga Mayol, University of Puerto Rico

Olga is an associate professor at the University of Puerto Rico. She works at the Institute for Tropical Ecosystem Studies (ITES) on the Rio-Piedras campus of UPR. We first met Olga during the INDOEX campaign in the Maldives in 1999. As part of the RICO-PRACS campaign in 2004, an aerosol system was deployed at the Cape San Juan Observatory (CPR) on the northeastern coast of Puerto Rico. This system was one of the first collaborations in the federated aerosol network and has been operating ever since.

In addition to teaching at the University of Puerto Rico and managing two atmospheric observatories on the island, Olga has served on the IGAC scientific steering committee and led a recent field campaign (PRADACS) to study the impact of African dust in the Carribean. Her research interests include aerosol properties (chemical, optical and physical) with particular interest on aerosols in the tropical regions.
