First-guess ("priors" but not really) fluxes for CT2022 are available at https://gml.noaa.gov/aftp/products/carbontracker/co2/CT2022/fluxes/unoptimized/. Note that as I've already stated, CT2022 is the mean of two inversions using distinct land, ocean, fire, and FF first-guess fluxes. ObsPack samples can be found at https://gml.noaa.gov/aftp/products/carbontracker/co2/GCP2024/GCP2024.ObsPack.tgz (zipped tar file). The CT_assim variable indicates whether data were assimilated (value 1) , withheld (value 2), or not used (value 0). Model residuals should be computed as model_co2_final - measured_value. This is a tarred gzip file with one CSV file per latitude band. Latitude band 1 is the southern extratropics, lat band 2 is the tropics, band 3 is the northern extratropics, and band 4 is the globe. Both of these simulations optimize fluxes by estimating weekly scaling factors for 156 ecoregions spanning the globe. These scaling factors multiply first-guess fluxes from upstream biogeochemical simulations for the ocean and land biosphere. Optimization is performed using a 150-member ensemble of TM5 transport simulations (Krol et al. 2005) using a 12-week windowed ensemble Kalman filter. Wildfire and fossil-fuel CO2 emissions are prescribed. Standard CarbonTracker releases are the average of optimized fluxes from two inversions using distinct first-guess fluxes from an ensemble of terrestrial and ocean models. The CarbonTracker Near-Real Time (CT-NRT) system differs in that its first-guess fluxes come from the climatology of optimized fluxes from CT2022 plus a statistical flux anomaly model driven by anomalies of temperature, sunlight, and precipitation. The CT-NRT simulations are designed to use the fewer and provisional CO2 measurement data from the near-real time CO2 ObsPack product (Schuldt et al. 2024).
