There's a lot to do at the South Pole when you aren't working. There are games and sports to be played and arts and crafts to be done and wandering around outside on skis, bike or foot is pretty amazing. There's also options for being a couch potato - books/movies/sleep.

• This is the main hallway on one of the floors of the station (There's two floors). Everything in the station connects to the two main hallways.
• There's a bunch of fun stuff to occupy you when you're not working. There's a small greenhouse - it's probably the only place that's not 0% relative humidity. People were playing banjos in the greenhouse one night. There's also a music room with lots of instruments.
• There's a library - I went to a knitting group one night and made a head band. There's also a craftroom with all sorts of awesome stuff - sewing machines and screen printing and paints...They also store costumes in the craft room.
• There's a gym (I played volleyball one night) and a workout room and a sauna. There's also a huge video collection (beta, vhs and dvd)

• The snow drifts around and there are some really cool formations.
• Here's another cool drift.
• This is a 30 year sturgeon. Actually it's probably older than that but it's been in the ice tunnels at South Pole for that long. It's one of many 'shrines' in the ice tunnels. Others include a butter sculpture of Amundson from the 100th anniversary of his arrival at South Pole and a 'my little ponies' shrine. People use chainsaws to carve little niches in the walls of the ice and create shrines of various sort. There's even a shrine to a chainsaw.

• Sad to be leaving SPO, but happy to be heading home.
• Kiwi C-130 - they kindly flew me home from McMurdo to Christchurch on Thanksgiving day.
