Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis 
Description: The web site of the Canadian Centre for Climate Modelling and Analysis. CCCma is a division of the Climate Research Branch of the Meteorological Service of Canada of Environment Canada. We conduct research in coupled and atmospheric climate modelling, sea-ice modelling, climate variability and predictability, the carbon cycle, and a number of other areas.

Carnegie Department of Global Ecology 
Description: The Carnegie Institution is a private organization that conducts basic research for the benefit of humanity. Its Department of Global Ecology, founded in 2002 on the campus of Stanford University, conducts basic research on the interactions among the earth's ecosystems, land, atmosphere, and oceans. The goal of this research is understanding the ways these interactions shape the behavior of the earth system, including its responses to future changes. The Department of Global Ecology includes faculty members, post-doctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduates, plus technical and administrative staff. There are opportunities for volunteers who wish to be involved in the research.

Center for Atmospheric and Oceanic Studies 
Description: The Atmospheric Trace Gas Laboratory and the Atmosphere-Ocean Exchange Laboratory collaborate with each other in their research activities, in which extensive measurements of the concentrations and isotopic ratios of various greenhouse gases (GHGs) are carried out by using suchplatforms as ground-based stations, ships, aircrafts, and balloons, to elucidate their temporal and spatial variations. Polar ice cores are analyzed to reconstruct the past variations of GHG species. We also investigate the exchange processes of the GHG related materials, heat and momentum between the atmosphere and the ocean. On the basis of the results from these observational studies, numerical models are developed to provide a quantitative understanding of the global cycles of GHGs. The Radiation and Climate Physics Laboratory is aimed at improving our understanding of the processes involved in aerosol/cloud-radiation-climate interactions. The research activity includes observational studies on the radiative properties of such atmospheric constituents as aerosols, clouds, and water vapor, as well as their effects on climate. Theoretical modeling and numerical simulation studies of the interaction processes are an important component of the research activity. The research activity also includes advanced remote sensing analysis of the optical and physical properties of aerosols and clouds by synergy use of passive and active sensors and satellites. The Satellite Oceanography Laboratory is conducting researches on the ocean environment by using a variety of satellite data. The research topics include air-sea interactions, regional oceanic circulation, and bio-geophysical interactions, in which the study employs the methods of satellite data analysis as well as numerical simulations by various ocean models. A large wind-wave tank is also used for laboratory experiments of the air-water boundary processes and microwave remote sensing.

Center for Carbon Management 
Description: Missing from the recent debate on the world’s energy needs is an attempt to maintain the fossil fuel option while addressing the legitimate environmental concerns over the emission of carbon dioxide. Rather than eliminating the use of fossil fuels or ignoring the risks they pose to the atmosphere, a viable third way would find ways to capture virtually all carbon dioxide, either at the point of emission or from the air, and dispose of it safely and permanently. The mission of the Center for Carbon Management is to research and develop new technologies that will sustain fossil fuels as a viable energy source.

Center for Science and Technology Policy Research 
Description: The Center for Science and Technology Policy Research was initiated within the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences (CIRES) at the University of Colorado-Boulder in the summer of 2001 as a contribution both to the CIRES goal of “promoting science in service to society” and to the University’s vision of establishing research and outreach across traditional academic boundaries. The Center is a response to an inc reased demand by public and private decision makers for “usable” scientific information. Such information can serve decisions that have a scientific component or decisions about the structures, organizations, and priorities of science itself. At the same time, scientists have become increasingly interested in research problems that require the input of more than just a single traditional discipline. Science and technology policy research provides a mechanism to reconcile these two closely related - but not identical - trends. Such research focuses on “problems” and “decisions” to provide information that is useful and relevant in decision making. The focus on problems and decisions sets science and technology policy research apart from other efforts to integrate knowledge across traditional disciplines.

Centre for Environmental Modelling and Prediction at UNSW 
Description: The Centre for Environmental Modelling and Prediction at UNSW comprises one of Australia's largest and most successful teaching and research groups in meteorology and oceanography, with interests in weather forecasting, climate modelling, ocean current simulation and wave breaking. The tools used by both staff and students include mathematical techniques and supercomputer models, with studies augmented by data collected from both ships and aircraft and from regions as diverse as the Great Barrier Reef and the Antarctic.

Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences 
Description: Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS) is one of the highest meteorological research institutions in China. CAMS is attached to China Meteorological Administration, and supported by both China Meteorological Administration and Ministry of Science and Technology of China. It was established in 1978. Its predecessor was the Central Meteorological Institute, which was renamed as CAMS in 1991.

Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Michigan 
Description: Civil and environmental engineers design, plan and construct infrastructure systems including buildings, bridges, highways, airports, tunnels, pipelines, channels, waste-water systems, waste site, remediation systems, power generating plants, manufacturing facilities, dams, and harbors. These infrastructure systems are key to sustaining human development and activities, and civil and environmental engineers must consider technical as well as economic, environmental, aesthetic, and social aspects. Many projects are sufficiently large and complex that civil and environmental engineers seldom work alone, but usually are a part of an interdisciplinary team, and so benefit from a broad-based education.
