Laboratory of Glaciology and Geophysical Environment
Description: LGGE (Laboratory of Glaciology and Environmental Geophysics) is a mixed research unit managed by both the CNRS (French National Centre for Scientific Research) and the Université Joseph-Fourier (UJF, Grenoble I). Within the CNRS, LGGE is primarily a part of the Sciences of the Universe department ( INSU/SDU), but also the Engineering Sciences department (SPI) for its work on ice. Within the university, LGGE is a part of the Observatory for Sciences of the Universe in Grenoble (OSUG). It makes extensive use of the technical support provided by Institut Polaire Français Paul-Emile Victor (IPEV) for operations in polar regions. LGGE hosts researchers from the French Research for Development Institute (IRD) working on tropical glaciers.

Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab)
Description: Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) has been a leader in science and engineering research for more than 70 years. Located on a 200 acre site in the hills above the University of California's Berkeley campus, adjacent to the San Francisco Bay, Berkeley Lab holds the distinction of being the oldest of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Laboratories. The Lab is managed by the University of California, operating with an annual budget of more than $500 million (FY2004) and a staff of about 3,800 employees, including more than 500 students.

Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory
Description: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is a premier research and development institution for science and technology applied to national security. We are responsible for ensuring that the nation’s nuclear weapons remain safe, secure, and reliable. LLNL also applies its expertise to prevent the spread and use of weapons of mass destruction and strengthen homeland security. Our national security mission requires special multidisciplinary capabilities that are also used to pursue programs in advanced defense technologies, energy, environment, biosciences, and basic science to meet important national needs. These activities enhance the competencies needed for our defining national security mission.

Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research
Description: Manaaki Whenua - Landcare Research is New Zealand's foremost environmental research organisation specialising in sustainable management of land resources optimising primary production, enhancing biodiversity, increasing the resource efficiency of businesses, and conserving and restoring the natural assets of our communities. Landcare Research is one of nine independent Crown Research Institutes (CRIs) founded in 1992 from a reorganisation of Government funded research in New Zealand. We have about 390 staff, approximately 320 of whom are involved in research. We have strong collaborative links with other CRIs and universities so we can use the most effective combination of skills on each project. Our researchers are supported by sophisticated technology, analytical laboratories, and specialised support such as legal and graphics services, communications and business development, and an extensive specialised library.

Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry Department
Description: Scientists in the Marine Chemistry and Geochemistry (MC&G) Department were extremely active in 2004 analyzing the chemical composition of the ocean, and its constituent sediments, rocks, and biota. While laboratory studies, modeling, and remote sensing of the ocean all are important to many of our staff, what stands out in 2004 was the wide range and number of field programs. Jeff Seewald, Katrina Edwards, and Wolfgang Bach conducted research cruises to undersea hot spots in the Pacific, where chemical and microbiological transformations at high temperature and pressure take place in and around underwater volcanic systems. Such sites are accessible several miles below the surface only by remote samplers and underwater submersibles that take measurements and collect samples for analyses.

Max-Planck-Institute for Biogeochemistry, Jena
Description: The Institute for Biogeochemistry, founded in 1997, is dedicated to the study of long-term interactions among the biosphere, atmosphere, geosphere and the oceans.

Meteorological Research Institute
Description: Global change and environmental issues are one of the urgent and common subjects human beings should solve; global warming issue due to the increment of greenhouse-effect gases like carbon dioxide according to enhancement of human activity, destruction of ozone layer by CFCs, acid rain and desertification, etc. Also every year we have a severe damage due to heavy thunderstorms and typhoons in our country. To prevent the damage is very important. In addition, as our country is a typical volcanic and earthquake country,we are highly required to establish the forecast technique for big earthquake and volcanic eruption.

Meteorological Service of Canada
Description: The Meteorological Service of Canada (MSC) is Canada's source for meteorological information. The Service monitors water quantities, provides information and conducts research on climate, atmospheric science, air quality, ice and other environmental issues, making it an important source of expertise in these areas.

National Institute of Aerospace
Description: The National Institute of Aerospace at Langley Research Center is a world-class research and education institute created to do cutting edge aerospace and atmospheric research, develop new technologies for the nation and help inspire the next generation of scientists and engineers. Standing behind NIA is a formidable team: the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC), the AIAA Foundation, and seven major research universities – Georgia Tech, Hampton University, North Carolina A&T, North Carolina State University, University of Maryland, University of Virginia, and Virginia Tech. Affiliate members are Old Dominion University and The College of William & Mary.

National Center for Agroecology
Description: As the National Center for Agroecology, the FAL takes into consideration the requirements of agricultural practice and extension, and of political, environmental and public demands. We keep in touch with all our stakeholders. Our research integrates ecological aims and agricultural production aspects. We cooperate closely with universities as well as with our five sister research stations. Together with the Research Station for Plant Production in Changins (RAC), we form the center of competence for "field crops, grasslands and agroecology".
