  • Files for CarbonTracker releases may be downloaded through the command line with a FTP link. To download files you may use the base FTP path for this run of ftp://aftp.cmdl.noaa.gov/products/carbontracker/co2/CT2015/ with the path to the file or files using get or wget.
  • Mole Fractions
CO2 mole fraction fields available in netCDF format. Time resolution is 3-hourly. Mole fractions are available on the global 3x2-degree grid and the N. America 1x1-degree zoom region. Please be sure to read the metadata provided in the netCDF file atttributes.
    • CO2 components are the separate CO2 tracers independently modeled by CarbonTracker: background (bg), land biosphere excluding fires (bio), fossil fuel (ff), wildfire (fires), air-sea exchange (ocean).
    • CO2 total is the full CO2 field, summing across the component tracers. These netCDF files contain also geopotential heights and pressures of the model layer interfaces, and temperature and specific humidity of the model layers. Most analyses will want to use this product.

  • Fluxes
Global surface fluxes at 1x1-degree spatial resolution in netCDF format. Provided as flux components: fossil fuel emissions, land biosphere NEE excluding fires, wildfire emissions, and air-sea exchange. CarbonTracker allows for any type of flux to happen at any grid location, so users are cautioned that they may want to sum flux components to get total surface CO2 exchange with the atmosphere. This convention admits land fluxes from islands in the ocean, for instance, or air-water exchange from inland lakes and seas. Please be sure to read the metadata provided in the netCDF file atttributes.

  • Simulated Observations
The CT2015 ObsPack contains modeled values for all observations simulated by CarbonTracker. For convenience, the actual measured values are also available, although the primary source for these data is the GLOBALVIEWplus-1.0 ObsPack.

  • regions.nc
All CT2015 regions are defined on a 1x1 degree grid in this file. This includes the 19 Olson ecosystems, the 23 TransCom regions, the 30 ocean regions, and the 240 ecoregions on which inversion is performed.

  • postagg_definitions.nc
The set of "extended" regions formed by post-aggregating the 23 TransCom regions.

Please be sure to read the metadata provided in the netCDF file atttributes.

  • Source Code
This is a link to the CarbonTracker source code. The main body of CarbonTracker is the TM5 two-way nested model written in Fortran 90. Additional data needed to run CarbonTracker yourself can be made available upon request.

  • Archives
This is a link to the CarbonTracker Archive that includes 3-D mole fractions, weekly fluxes, source code, web figures, and documentation from previous releases.
Please see Citation for CarbonTracker usage policy and citation. Users may find the NASA/GISS Panoply NetCDF Viewer helpful for working with CarbonTracker NetCDF files.
