The marine biota are apparently very vulnerable for the acidification of the world's oceans caused by higher atmospheric CO2.  This puts ocean CO2 sequestration schemes in a different, more negative light. These effects are namely rarely discussed in connection to CO2 injection into the ocean.
Does the panel agree?

With regard to Lisa's comments, I feel the analogy with climate research is hard to push.  The direct co2 acidification issue notwithstanding, carbon cycling is 'subservient' to the climate issue.  That is, do people, at large, really care about carbon per se, or only insofar as it affects climate?

Easy way to save some watts: explain the OMNI hotel staff that it is not absolutely necessary to put the lights on in the room all along the day.

Regarding communication with the general public, policy and decision makers: At least in Colorado, there has been significant interest from the oil, energy and coal production companies on the impacts and consequences of climate change and carbon cycle science. NCAR has had the opportunity to present carbon cycle and climate change science to groups of energy, rural electric associations and other utility industries at both the state and interstate levels. The clear consensus from these groups is that they are ready to begin reduction of emissions and are gearing up for policy mandates. They KNOW that this kind of regulation, at least in the US is coming down the pike sooner, rather than later.

It is up to us to take the challenge and more importantly, take the time to educate and communicate in a clear and straightforward manner the processes, implications and uncertainties in our understanding of carbon cycle science to both the general public and energy industries.
