Re: European-wide Reduction in Primary Productivity Caused by the Heat and Drought i (Score 1) by Philippe.Ciais on Monday, October 03 @ 01:40:07 MDT (User Info) | Hi,
2004 was quite a wet year and the RS data indicate that LAI, FAPAR have fully recovered from 2003, so the immediate post-2003 effects do not weem very large. Tree mortality was not so large in 2003 (i.e. few trees actually died) so I don't know whether the formation of more CWD would have significant effects on the C balance (forests are anyway 100% managed and foresters would cut such dead trees anyway). Rather, fine roots and leaves had extra-mortality, likely causing a transient deficit in the respiration from labile soil pools. We put in the Nature Supplementary Material a figure on tree ring growth, and at most sites direct tree growth is measured, but the data are not synthesized yet.
