Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
Description: At PNNL, we deliver breakthrough science and technology to meet key national needs. We also apply our capabilities to meet selected environmental, energy, health and national security objectives, strengthen the economy, and support the education of future scientists and engineers. PNNL is managed by DOE's Office of Science, but we perform work for many DOE offices as well as other government agencies. Battelle has operated PNNL for DOE and its predecessors since 1965. A unique feature of Battelle's contract with DOE allows our staff to work for private industry.

Institue of Arctic Biology
Description: The Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB), established by the Alaska Legislature and the University of Alaska Board of Regents in 1962, supports faculty research and graduate education in biological, wildlife, and health sciences at UAF. Major programs include the Center for Alaska Native Health Research, Alaska Basic Neuroscience Program, Human Dimensions of Arctic Systems, and the Center for Molecular Genetic Studies of Hibernation. IAB faculty deliver the entire curriculum for undergraduate majors in Biology and Wildlife Biology, an increasing component of Chemistry and Biochemistry majors, and provide UAF undergraduates with opportunities for hands-on research experiences in the field and laboratory. IAB sponsors the weekly Life Science Seminar, and the yearly Irving-Scholander Memorial Lecture and Jay Hammond Lecture in Wildlife Biology series.

Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory
Description: The Pacific Marine Environmental Laboratory (PMEL) carries out interdisciplinary and prediction of the ocean environment on time scales from hours to decades. Studies are conducted to improve our understanding of the complex physical and geochemical processes operating in the world oceans, to define the forcing functions and the processes driving ocean circulation and the global climate system, and to improve environmental forecasting capabilities and other supporting services for marine commerce and fisheries. Results from PMEL manage the use of coastal and ocean resources through ecosystem-based information. PMEL provides sound, state of the art research that underpins NOAA’s environmental assessment, prediction, and ecosystem management missions and contributes to the development of an integrated global environmental observation and data management system.

National Center for Agroecology
Description: As the National Center for Agroecology, the FAL takes into consideration the requirements of agricultural practice and extension, and of political, environmental and public demands. We keep in touch with all our stakeholders. Our research integrates ecological aims and agricultural production aspects. We cooperate closely with universities as well as with our five sister research stations. Together with the Research Station for Plant Production in Changins (RAC), we form the center of competence for "field crops, grasslands and agroecology".

Berkeley Atmospheric Sciences Center
Description: Atmospheric science is therefore intrinsically interdisciplinary, with chemistry, physics, mathematics, biology, geology, and ecology all core disciplines. The Berkeley Atmospheric Sciences Center is a multi-college unit at UC Berkeley, with the goal to broaden the atmospheric sciences beyond its traditional boundaries to embrace the biogeochemical frontier and the human dimension. The Center facilitates communication and integration across these traditional boundaries. In doing so, we aim to define a new paradigm for investigating changes in the atmosphere by integrating the microscopic mechanisms of chemical, physical, and biological processes with large-scale ecological and geological interactions between the geosphere, biosphere, and oceans, and how these interactions alter atmospheric composition.

Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences
Description: Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences (CAMS) is one of the highest meteorological research institutions in China. CAMS is attached to China Meteorological Administration, and supported by both China Meteorological Administration and Ministry of Science and Technology of China. It was established in 1978. Its predecessor was the Central Meteorological Institute, which was renamed as CAMS in 1991.

Department of Evolution, Ecology and Organismal Biology (EEOB)
Description: The mission of the Department of Evolution, Ecology, and Organismal Biology is to provide high qua lity, comprehensive programs in undergraduate and graduate instruction, to generate and disseminate knowledge gained through original research, and to provide service to the University and professional and public sectors.   As one of six departments in the College, the Department contributes to the mission of the College in the areas of teaching, research and service in evolutionary biology, organismal biology, and ecology.   In keeping with the University's mission, the department is committed to the goal of promoting diversity.  Formal classroom courses and original research focus on a broad spectrum of topics.   The Department is particularly focused on understanding basic processes that affect the evolution, physiology, behavior, and population biology of organisms, as well as species interactions and ecosystem function.   The faculty, staff, and students focus on fundamental concepts and theory at levels of organization ranging from molecular to global.

UCLA | Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences
Description: The UCLA Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences has been at the forefront of atomspheric and oceanic research and educatino since its inception in 1940. A broad curriculum is offered in Dynamic and Synoptic Meterology, Atomspheric Chemistry and Physics, Atomspheric Radaition and Remote Sensing, Climate Dynamics, Physical Oceanagraphy, and Upper Atmospheric and Space Physics. The Departments unique strength lies in the breadth of its educational and research programs.
