Institute of Plant Sciences
Description: The Institute of Plant Sciences of the University of Bern (IPS), Switzerland, is a teaching and research institute, consisting of five independent research sections. The education of a plant scientists at the IPS takes four years, including a diploma work (Master's thesis) of one year, a PhD thesis lasts three years. Our aim is the education of plant scientists who are able to work independently as scientists in research or administration, who have a broad knowledge about general botany, who understand important processes in plants and who master the most important methods in plant ecology, statistics, physiology, biochemistry and molecular biology. In addition we stress the ability to co-operate, to give good seminars and to take responsibility.

Scientific and Production Association 'Typhoon'
Description: SPA 'Typhoon' is a governmental scientific institution, a leading one for the Russian Federal Service on Hydrometeorology and Environmental Monitoring (Roshydromet). It was founded in 1986 (till 1986 it was the Institute of Experimental Meteorology, which was founded in April 16, 1968). The staff by January 1, 2001 is 657 employees, 18 doctors and 105 candidates of sciences in their number.

Ecosystem Change Research Program
Description: Ecosystems are principal components of research on environmental change. Observational and modeling research on ecosystems at the global scale, however, has lagged behind their counterparts for oceanic and atmospheric systems, largely because the unique challenges associated with the tremendous diversity and complexity of ecosystems. Building a successful, integrated model of the global change in the Earth system requires a reliable model of ecosystem dynamics, in combination with accurate environmental and ecological data to support and validate the model. In the Ecosystem Change Research Program (ECRP), we investigate how ecosystem processes influence global scale environmental/climatic changes such as those associated with global warming. We also seek to identify and model, with improved accuracy, the mechanisms through which global environmental/climatic change influences ecosystems.

International Arctic Research Center [IARC]
Description: The International Arctic Research Center [IARC] serves as a focal point of integrating/synthesizing arctic research efforts in terms of climate change and communicates the results to the global climate research community. Our core research group interacts with a larger number of scientists from many parts of the world, enabling climate change research to truly be an international effort.

Hokkaido Research Center
Description: We are promoting researches under the five research groups and several research teams in order to clarify the characteristics and functions of natural forests in Hokkaido, to improve their quality and quantity based on the results obtained from other studies, to improve protection and management systems of natural and artifical forests for sustainable yield, and to meet the demand of global environmental problems.

Bermuda Biological Station for Research, Inc.
Description: BBSR has been a noted resource for hands-on education for decades, with graduate, undergraduate and high school students coming from around the world to study at BBSR. Although BBSR is not a degree-granting institution, students participate in BBSR summer courses for credit from a number of prestigious institutions. Since 1997, BBSR has participated in collaborative semester sessions with accredited institutions. BBSR now has collaborative programs for undergraduate students with Duke University, the University of Rhode Island, and Roger Williams University. Students in the program offered with Duke University come from a number of institutions that participate in a marine science consortium.

Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI)  Popular
Description: Polar and Marine research are central themes of Global system and Environmental Science. The Alfred Wegener Institute conducts research in the Arctic, the Antarctic and at temperate latitudes. It coordinates Polar research in Germany and provides both the necessary equipment and the essential logistic back up for polar expeditions. Recent additional research themes include North Sea Research, contributions to Marine Biological Monitoring, Marine Pollution Research, Investigation of naturally occuring marine substances and technical marine developments.

Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI)
Description: Forestry and Forest Products Research Institute (FFPRI) plays a role to contribute to development of science and technology, forestry administration, Japan's international cooperation, and public activities, for promotion of sustainable forest management and resource utilization, through research on forest, forestry and forest products

Center for Carbon Management
Description: Missing from the recent debate on the world’s energy needs is an attempt to maintain the fossil fuel option while addressing the legitimate environmental concerns over the emission of carbon dioxide. Rather than eliminating the use of fossil fuels or ignoring the risks they pose to the atmosphere, a viable third way would find ways to capture virtually all carbon dioxide, either at the point of emission or from the air, and dispose of it safely and permanently. The mission of the Center for Carbon Management is to research and develop new technologies that will sustain fossil fuels as a viable energy source.

Wageningen UR
Description: After the devastating tsunami of 26 December 2004, Wageningen UR has installed a "Tsunami Task Force" which explores the ways in which our organization can contribute to the reconstruction of tsunami-affected areas. An inventory of our expertise, relevant for the reconstruction activities, has been compiled into a catalogue and distributed to organizations in the tsunami-affected areas.
