Ben joined the GML Radiation Aerosol and Cloud Division (GRAD) in 2024 as an electronics engineer and field technician. He will divide his time between working on the SURFRAD network and acting as the deputy mentor for the Multi-Filter Rotating Shadowband Radiometer (MFRSR) for the Department of Energy Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) program.
Ben has a B.S. in Physics and Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology where he graduated in 2020. While at MIT Ben participated in astronomy and nuclear security research, specializing in radiation detection systems. Prior to joining CIRES, Ben worked on FPGA and digital electronics design and testing for the aerospace and chip design industries, as well as software engineering for the energy analytics industry. He is very excited to apply his electronics and engineering experience in support of scientific instrumentation deployed in the field. Outside of work Ben enjoys hiking, wildlife and astro photography, and building custom scintillation detectors.
