Bryan Thomas

Bryan is a Physical Scientist responsible for taking measurements and maintaining instruments and facilities as the Station Lead of the NOAA Barrow Atmospheric Baseline Observatory.

Bryan lives year-round in Utqiaġvik with his spouse, Laura; their 3 children; 2 dogs; and, 1 tortoise.

Bryan moved to Utqiaġvik (Barrow), Alaska from his hometown near Sacramento, California in January 2007.

Bryan earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Resource Sciences from the University of California, Davis.

Prior to relocating to the Arctic, Bryan worked in the Information Technology field, including technical support and systems programming for Intel Corporation in California.

Upon moving to Utqiaġvik, he worked as a logistics planner and systems programmer with the Barrow Arctic Science Consortium (BASC), and later as a telephone and internet technician with Arctic Slope Telephone Association Cooperative (ASTAC). In 2016, Bryan joined the Federal service as a Physical Scientist.

Bryan has also served as an adjunct instructor of Mathematics and of Information Technology for Iḷisaġvik College.

Bryan's hobbies and other interests include: computer programming; museums; hiking; gardening; building with LEGO® bricks; Monty Python humor; disability advocacy; citizen science; reading.
