Jackson VanFleet-Brown

Jackson grew up in San Francisco and has a Bachelor's degree in geology from Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota. Before joining the NOAA Corps in 2017, Jackson worked as a biological research technician for Channel Islands National Park and Point Blue Conservation Science. During field research campaigns he conducted observations on small carnivores (Channel Islands) and breeding seabirds (Southeast Farallon Island). This field work inspired Jackson to join the NOAA Corps.

Upon joining the NOAA Corps, Jackson was assigned to the NOAA Ship Fairweather, homeported in Ketchikan, AK. His ship was primarily responsible for charting Alaska's remote ocean floor. Aside from running sonar and safely navigating the ship, LTJG Vanfleet-Brown was also responsible for coordinating outreach and became a qualified small boat driver.
