Job Description:

Peter Effertz is a professional research assistant with the Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Science (CIRES). He works in the Ozone and Water Vapor Division of NOAA’s Global Monitoring Laboratory. Specifically, he is the network lead for the surface ozone network, ensuring the calibration, repair, and quality assurance for the surface ozone instrumentation. He also contributes to the Dobson ozone network, helping out with observations at the Boulder monitoring site and calibrations of Dobson instruments. Peter is most interested in tropospheric and stratospheric trends in Ozone and the tropospheric-stratospheric transport.

Bio:

Peter grew up in Janesville Minnesota, a small town about an hour south of the Twin Cities. He graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Meteorology. Then, moved out to Richmond Virginia and joined the Commonwealth’s Office of Air Quality monitoring working on ambient air quality monitoring instrumentation. There he helped reactivate a local chapter of the American Meteorological Society – the Central Virginia Chapter and served as its president for three years. He moved to Colorado and joined the Global Monitoring Laboratory in November 2020.

Peter loves hiking, biking, skiing, and camping so the move to Colorado was an easy one for me and looks forward to enjoying the great Colorado outdoors!

Education:

B.S. in Meteorology, Iowa State University 2012
