Figure 7. The GC and pump sections of LACE were placed in the NOAA/CMDL
vacuum chamber for pressure and temperature tests during May 1996. We were able
to get stable chromatograms of CFC-11 and CFC-113 from
both channels to pressures as low as 8 mb and temperatures as low as -30 oC.
One problem observed was the sticking of an absolute back-pressure valve on
the GC section because of the cold temperatures. The solution was to warm the
valve with a small heater and insulation.
