New Sensors and Controllers of LACE

Figure 4. Left photo shows new lightweight mass flow controllers used
in LACE. The flow controllers used in LACE are about one-third the weight of
a commercial unit but can run in a vacuum environment. These are used to control
the flow of carrier gas during chromatography. Right photo shows new lightweight
pressure controller used in LACE. The pressure controllers used in LACE are
very precise (+/- 0.3 mb @ 834 mb), don't require a ballast volume, and are
about one-sixth the weight and about one-third the volume of a commercial unit
used in ACATS-II. These are used in LACE to control the pressure inside the
electron capture detector (ECD) and sample loops. Note the U. S. quarter in
the foreground for a perspective in size. Both were designed in HATS by Ray
Dunn and machined in the AL by Rich McLaughlin.
